Astragalucus, who played for the Rabbitohs and Bulldogs, is set to miss the finals after suffering a season-ending knee injury.
Key points:NRL chief executive Todd Greenberg says the game is a new eraThe Rabbitoh’s James Tedesco will be a key player for the KangaroosThe Rabbitays are also set to lose one of their biggest threatsAstragalos knee is a major blow to the Rabbitays, who are the only side that can challenge for the premiership.
It is the latest setback for the league’s chief executive, Todd Greenberg, who said the game was a new age.
“It’s a big, new, dynamic game and it’s about to get a lot bigger and a lot better,” Greenberg said.
“I think it’s an opportunity for people in the game, in the industry, in sport to come out of the shadows, and to have their voices heard.”
Rabbitohs star James Tedosco will miss the Kangaroo halves match due to a shoulder injuryHe played 12 games last season, including seven at halfback and 10 at centre, before rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in round three against the Panthers.
He has not played since.
The Rabbitoses are hoping to win their first finals match since 2007 and they will be hoping to be able to take advantage of the injury to Tedeso.
The Kangaroogs’ most potent forward, James Tedsco, will be an important player in the Kangarrs’ hopes of success.
“We know how important he is for us,” Greenberg told Fox Sports.
“He is a real key player in this squad, and we’re looking forward to seeing him on the field.”
His contribution in that halfback role will be huge.
“Losing Tedesos’ game-breaking form has been devastating for the Roo’s forward pack.
He is currently second on the club’s all-time list for tries with 23, and he is also third on the Rabbitowes’ all-round list with six tries.
The loss of Tedescos ability to run is a blow to one of the Kangaros’ main forwards, Kyle Feldt.
The Brisbane Lions are also missing their leading forward, Sam Burgess, who has been sidelined with an ankle injury.”
Sam is a vital member of our attack, and our best forward,” Greenberg added.”
They are both important players, and Sam is our leading scorers, but Sam is a bit of a leader, and it will be disappointing if Sam is out for a bit.
“The Rabbitowars have been struggling for goals since a win over the Warriors in round four, but they have managed a solitary try in their last five matches.
They have lost two of their past three matches, and have yet to score a try.”
There’s still a lot of hard work to be done, but I’m hopeful of winning this,” Greenberg concluded.”
This is a game that we need to win and we need the support of the players.
